About the Production"Rethinking Good Intentions" is a captivating narrative that explores the journey of bridging cultural divides through community health initiatives. Nancy takes us back to the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, immersing us in the subsistence farming villages of Sierra Leone. Through encounters with local figures such as village chiefs, traditional birth attendants, and public health nurses, we witness the highs and lows of public health work.
The story delves into the cultural clashes Nancy encounters, showcasing both the challenges and triumphs in navigating these complexities. Her experiences challenge her preconceptions and notions of social privilege, ultimately deepening her global connections. In her retirement, Nancy reflects on how good intentions can evolve into meaningful ally-ships. Nancy will be donating all of her artist's proceeds from ticket sales to CODE, a Canadian non-governmental organization that promotes every child's right to read. CODE supports literacy programs in Sierra Leone. https://code.ngo/tlfc/

BiographyI call myself a recovering academic writer. In my retirement, I’ve turned to stories that connect with hearts and minds.
I think the right blend of humor and poignancy shifts mindsets. My artistic goal is to bridge cultural divides through story-telling and photography. Drawing on my experiences as a community health nurse, I explore othering and inequities, and examine connections and ally-ship. I delve into cultural practices and their ancestral roots. I wrap audiences in stories of hardship, survival, and resilience that are buffered by humor, empathy, and hopefulness. I want listeners to feel the bonds of our common humanity. Please visit Nancy Edwards website at the link above for more information on CODE, this organization not only could help a loved one but it gives a child the right to excel in life.
