in April 2022 I was reading a book dedicated to QUILTBAGS otherwise named all 2slgbtq+ folks. Hysterically, I started making 30+ small quilted bags and since have made larger and larger works. Quilting has been a craft that connects me to my many grandmothers and matriarchal structures, as well as uses material that would otherwise be waste. I find I know how to sew and mend as I was raised to be able to (thanks patriarchy). I generally do not follow rules or read instructions well and this is visible in everything I make. I have received fabric from many people, and am so eternally grateful for the people(mostly women) who have protected, uplifted, and supported me. Locals should come and attend if they want to look at quilts and be surrounded by warmth and see something different done with a traditional medium that reflects on queerness, 'women's' work, home and safety.

Carrianne AgawaAt this year's fringe festival, visitors can look forward to experiencing the artistic talents of Carrianne Agawa, who will be showcasing a captivating collection of watercolor and acrylic paintings. Her works promise to offer a rich tapestry of colors and techniques, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the beauty and creativity of her artistry.
Snippet about the ArtistMy art style is traditional woodland with a twist of contemporary and feminisism. As an Indigenous storyteller, I embed in my art the stories/teachings that require one to look further than the canvas/paper they are painted on. My work aims to open the spirit and multiple perspectives of the world upon which others walk. Locals should attend if they want to see another way than what they currently think they see.

Bawaating Child Welfare Warriors
With MimiCurves Ahead is a showcase featuring 10 individuals from Northern Ontario, each on their own unique journey of embracing body positivity. This exhibit is dedicated to sharing stories about body image, the impact of media pressures, and celebrating the beauty of every curve. While it primarily highlights female identifying bodies, the exhibit is inclusive of all perspectives. Through sculpture and lifecasting, the artwork aims to initiate conversations about body confidence, breast health, and fostering a sense of comfort and acceptance in our own skin.
Brief introduction on the ArtistI’m Mimi - and I’m on a mission to normalize bodies through lifecasting. For our daughters who grow up with filters. For our mothers who badmouth their magical bodies. And for myself because growing up in the heroine chic era took its toll. I want to help people (and the humans who love them) realize that they are walking works of art. Come make custom art of your body!
