ACCESSIBILITY INFO

PROVIDING ACCESSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES
Fringe North prioritizes working to deliver accessible opportunities and experiences. We are learning, and invite any and all feedback that could help us achieve greater accessibility for all.
A Letter From the EDI TeamGreetings,
As Fringe North’s inaugural Equity, Diversity, Inclusion team, we’ve been doing research and
thinking a lot about how essential the EDI piece is to a festival like ours. We’re building a foundation to create meaningful festival policies backed up by staff and volunteer training, and community feedback and collaboration.
We base our work in the following statements:

  • We do not want to cause harm. We do not want to perpetuate oppression.
  • We realize theatre and the arts can be a conduit for change. We recognize our privilege to have the platform of a festival and therefore our responsibility to use our platform for good.
  • We want to be accountable to our communities, artists, audiences, and team.
  • We want to support diverse artists and diverse works. We especially wish to support and amplify the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, low-income, disabled, young and other marginalized people because we know these folks are more often unheard and left out.
  • We want to create safe(r) space for everyone; with an emphasis on BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, low-income, disabled, young and other marginalized people because we know there are less safe spaces for these folks. We believe everyone deserves to feel safe and accepted.
  • We want to respect our place on Indigenous land and be aware of the damage caused by historical and present day colonial violence. We want to listen to and learn from Indigenous people.
  • We believe in Human Rights and accept people of all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and religions.
  • We want to respect the stories being shared on our platform, and recognize the importance of our no-censorship policy for artists. We want our artists’ voices to be shared without limitation.
We understand this is challenging work that we may not always get right. We hope that you will be able to join us for this year’s festival and provide us with feedback on anything we could be doing better.
In collaboration and solidarity,
Nicole Dyble (they/them)
EDI Officer
