Northern Soul: Exploring Our Wild Ways by J.L. Fizzell & Andrew McMormick
written by Garrett Carr
THE PRODUCTION
This performance is a multi arts experience that uses a combination of Photography, Spoken Poetry and Live Music to convey an appreciation and understanding for our home in Northern Ontario. The hope is that the bulk of the photography will come from community submissions from locals showcasing the beauty of Northern Ontario with a focus on the Algoma District. The poetry for the performance will consist of poems inspired by photograph submissions. The music for this event will include some original pieces played on the guitar. Photos collected from this event will then be used as part of the Northern Ontario Project and can be viewed at www.jlfizzell.ca/ournorth/

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
J.L. Fizzell is a poet from Northern Ontario who writes poetry inspired by nature and the human experience. For this performance she is teaming up with her fiancee, Andrew McCormick, who is a classically trained guitarist. Both performers are born and raised in Northern Ontario and between the two have called every major city in this area home at one point or another. While Andrew is home of mixed decent, his Anishinaabe roots give a special connection to nature and Northern Ontario. To contrast this, J.L. Fizzell is the daughter of an immigrant while also being deeply connected to the Algoma District through her father's family and his roots in various small town Algoma.
Fringe North acknowledges and gives thanks to the Anishinaabe of Bawaating for their generosity, diligence, and patience in sharing, caring for, and carrying on the original teachings of Creation, the truest intentions of the Treaties, honouring the land, the spirits, and the collective dreams of our ancestors since time immemorial.
