EARP member Samantha Buttery is a gifted artist who will be performing for the first time at the Sault Ste. Marie Fringe Festival in 2024. This dark comedy, which takes place in the charming English town of Stratford-Upon-Avon in 1620, seems to offer a special fusion of historical intrigue and tongue-in-cheek humor. A Story with Serious Repercussions "What Remains?" chronicles the experiences of two best friends who are having a hard time making ends meet—Otto and Bert—in the graverobbing industry. They devise a scheme to plunder the tomb of the fabled William Shakespeare in an attempt to turn their fortunes around, with the hope of finding a hidden treasure. But when they discover nothing of value and wind up taking Shakespeare's bones instead—all the while ignoring the foreboding curse on his tomb—their plan takes an unexpected turn! Otto and Bert's adventure puts their integrity, shrewdness, and friendship to the test as the story progresses. Will they be able to deal with the fallout from their deeds, or will the curse be too strong for them to overcome? |
Biography
Samantha is a Sudbury artist, who graduated from Laurentian in 2021. Samantha was involved in the PlaySmelter Festival 2022 and 2023, where her pieces were given dramatized readings. In 2023 she became one of the recipients of the Theatre Recommenders grant. She was then accepted into the first Northerners Creation Unit with Pat the Dog. Samantha is a supporting member of the PGC and recently worked with the OAC as a jury panelist for the Northern Arts Projects. Her most recent endeavor is seeking production for her play.
