The Nows of Milton II & the Nearly Twenties
by McMillan-Newbery Space Gear
THE PRODUCTION
Three friends and a cactus return to the nows of a long summer by the lake where their lives unravel. This audio-visual virtual performance is inspired by The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. With monologues and experimental visuals, it explores themes of friendship, love, time, memory, and entering adulthood. See up-and-coming artists interweave diverse elements, and we’ll let you define the decade.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
McMillan-Newbery Space Gear is a performance company established for Fringe North 2021, where they won the Notable Newbie award for The Vinyl Problem. Avery McMillan and Lindrena Newbery are queer best friends from Sault Ste. Marie. They are both pursuing the arts, Lindrena at Toronto Film School, and Avery at the University of Toronto. The company’s name comes from a grade six Science presentation in which Lindrena wrapped Avery in tinfoil and promised 0% chance of survival outside Earth’s atmosphere. This year, McMillan-Newbery Space Gear is excited to welcome more artists to the team!
Fringe North acknowledges and gives thanks to the Anishinaabe of Bawaating for their generosity, diligence, and patience in sharing, caring for, and carrying on the original teachings of Creation, the truest intentions of the Treaties, honouring the land, the spirits, and the collective dreams of our ancestors since time immemorial.
