How A Bear Dies by Jacob Maybe
Despite the macabre title, "How A Bear Dies" is a (mostly) fun oral story about a backcountry butcher who yearns for respect and renown. He dreams of throwing a legendary dinner party where the main course will be prepared by him, butchered by him, and harvested from his woods, using a bow he's crafted himself. The trouble is, he's never hunted a day in his life and building a reliable bow is not as easy as it seems. Versions of this story have been honoured by the 20th Annual NOWW Awards, the Oregon Writers Colony Awards, featured in Type A Media's "Isolated Together" anthology, and supported by the Ontario Arts Council.

A Longer Table by Katie Huckson
Katie is proposing in her PhD work to carry out, facilitate, or collaborate on a series of relational and participatory artworks that involve food and eating. Recognizing the cultural diversity in our community, which is increasing each year, she hopes for this iteration and each of the events that come out of this work to involve various cultural communities within the city. The plan is to explain her research, existing practices that use food and relational art together (and different reasons why this happens - to share culture, memories, stories; towards social justice and food justice goals; to create opportunities for people to connect, slow down, interact over a meal - as some examples).

Black Water Sunken Cathedral
by Annie King & Michael Burtch
This collaboration will focus on an experimental multimedia performance that explores the intersection of water, movement, and sound, considering the human connection between water and organic life. Michael and Annie are influenced by the dual nature of water, which can be both life-giving and life-threatening. They will creatively exploit the subliminal and shapeshifting qualities of water and sound. Their work seeks to emphasize the impact of human intervention on the environment and the natural circulation of water. By framing bodies of water as circulatory systems akin to blood circulating through the body, the womb, and the biosphere, they provide a persistent and universal framework for our personal and social interactions. They will create an immersive multimedia exhibition in an off site space culminating in a live performance.
